Kampung Kerinchi, 24 JULY 1998 - In its effort to help the country's IT ambitions, local Internet Service Provider (ISP) TMnut has decided to waive its Internet usage charges beginning October 1 1998.
"With the Malaysian government doing so much to encourage Internet usage, TMnut as a major ISP in the country have responsibilities to the country and rakyat. That is why we are offering free Internet services to all our TMnut customers," said TMnut president Mr Tok Kok Big.
"Previously, we were charging 1.5 sen per minute, in addition to 2.5 sen per minute for Internet account service. That adds up to 4 sen per minute. During the period, we have squeezed all milk from the cows ... err ... customers I mean, and have made profits enough to purchase the entire United Nations."
"Now that we've achieved our materialistic objectives, we can finally look at our next less important target - to serve the people."
According to Mr Tok Kok Big, TMnut users should really take the opportunity to experience the wonders of the Internet. Malaysians do not have to worry about indecent materials because TMnut have joined forces with the Sensorship Body to eliminate them.
"With the sensorship, undecent materials like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and kissing-related things will be blocked. This is for the good of Malaysians as they can now focus on more appropriate items like Baywatch and Die Hard.
The free net access offer will be on during the period of October 1 1998 to October 2 1998 only.
